The Institute for Family & Community History is the research and scholarship division of The Honey Hole, Inc. Through interdisciplinary research, historical documentation, genealogy, oral history, historic preservation, and community partnerships, the Institute seeks to preserve the stories of historically underserved families and communities whose contributions have shaped Huntsville, Alabama, and the nation. Our research supports historic preservation, educational programming, heritage tourism, workforce development, community revitalization, and public policy by documenting the people, places, institutions, and industries that have too often been overlooked in traditional historical narratives. The Institute organizes its work through a comprehensive Research Framework consisting of Signature Research Initiatives, Supporting Research Programs, and Digital Collections.
